Hand-carved sculpture from a book block

From the book "Face to face: White perceptions and black realities" by Rose L.H. Finkenstaedt.

In my book sculpture I also work on themes that preoccupy me. This sculpture deals with the issue of structural everyday racism and the Black Lives Matter movement that arose in response to it.

For this sculpture, I deliberately did not work with a cover so that fragments of text from the book would be visible on the sides to create a reference to the content.
The golden coloured cut edges of the face surface are also synonymous with the preciousness of each individual human life.
The edges of the paper have been partially inked to further enhance the sculptural effect.
The effect of the facial expression can be influenced by the lighting.
